Storseisundet Bridge, Norway

Looking more like a roller coaster than an actual mode of transportation, the Storseisundet Bridge in Norway provides not only a scenic view, but also one very interesting road trip. Catch the bridge at just the right angle before it makes a sharp turn over the small islands below and it appears the roadway leads off into nowhere.

San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, San Francisco, Calif.

All we can say is don't look down! Check out the world's most outrageous (and yes, often downright terrifying) bridges ... The world's largest self-anchored suspension bridge is completely open for business. The eastern span of the San Francisco Bay Bridge finally opened on Sept. 2, 2013, just in time for the next day's early-morning rush hour. The massive project, completed six years behind schedule and five times over budget, is designed to withstand powerful earthquakes and stretches on for more than 2,000 feet. It is expected to serve 280,000 daily commuters. The new $6 billion structure comes more than 20 years after its predecessor was destroyed in a 1989 earthquake. See how it compares to some of the world's most impressive bridges

Aiguille du Midi Bridge, French Alps, France

It's a bridge with a view, to say the least. Stretching through the French Alps at more than 12,000 feet above sea level, the breathtaking Aiguille du Midi Bridge is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Millau Viaduct, France

Traveling the Millau Viaduct in Southern France is not for anyone even remotely afraid of heights. Coming in as the tallest bridge in the world, the cable-stayed bridge's tallest mast is approximately 1,125 feet and it boasts the 12th highest bridge deck in the world. Seen here filled with runners during the Viaduct race in 2007, the bridge has become a large tourist attraction, particularly for its incredible views.

Trift Bridge, Switzerland

Walking across the Trift Bridge in Switzerland looks like it must be one of the most terrifying journeys ever. The suspension bridge, which is one of the longest and highest suspension bridges for pedestrians in the Alps, is 560 feet long and rests 330 feet above the Trift Lake. The bridge was originally built in 2004, but had to be replaced in 2009 to prevent it from swinging in the harsh winds. Even with the safer conditions, hiking the bridge, which requires taking a freight cable car, is guaranteed to provide a thrill.

Langkawi Sky Bridge, Malaysia

One of the world's most stunning pieces of architecture, the Langkawi Sky Bridge allows trailblazers to walk among the lush, tropical treetops of Pulau Langkawi, Malaysia. The pedestrian bridge, completed in 2005, is 410 feet long and hangs an astonishing 2,300 feet above sea level.

Aizhai Bridge, China

Have a fear of heights? Cross riding the Aizhai Bridge in China off your list! The suspension bridge, which connects southwest China's Chongqing Municipality to Changsha in Hunan above the Dehang Canyon, opened to traffic in March 2012. With a staggering deck height of over 1,100 feet, it is the highest and longest tunnel-to-tunnel bridge in the world.

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Northern Ireland

The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge in Northern Ireland was originally built by local fisherman, but it now represents a challenge for tourists who come for an exhilarating rope bridge walk. At 66 feet long and 98 feet high, the bridge initially had a single rope hand rail, but has since been replaced with a two hand railed bridge. Safety first, we always say!

Royal Gorge Bridge, Colorado

The Royal Gorge Bridge in Canon City, Colorado is such a sight to behold, it actually has its own adventure park filled with rides and attractions. Suspended between two 150 foot towers, the bridge is ranked among one of the highest in the world at 1,053 feet. The bridge was constructed in 1929 and held the title of world's highest bridge until 2001. The bridge deck, which hangs above the Arkansas River, is a whopping 955 feet.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, Virginia

Bridge to nowhere? The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is so long, some motorists feel like they'll never see land again. The bridge is a massive 23-miles in total, including two approximately 1-mile long tunnels. The infrastructure connects Virginia's Eastern Shore to Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Hangzhou Bay Bridge, China
